What’s in Aloe Yami Balm? A plain-English ingredient breakdown

Three ingredients, no filler. Here is what each one is, what it does in the jar, and how much of that you can check for yourself.

The short answer

Aloe Yami Balm has three ingredients: petroleum jelly, aloe vera extract and vitamin E extract. Petroleum jelly is the base that holds moisture in. Aloe vera extract is the soother that goes on cool. Vitamin E extract is an antioxidant that looks after the balm itself. It comes in a 50 ml jar for face, body and scalp.

A note on this page. Aloe Yami Balm is a cosmetic product. It is intended to moisturise and comfort the skin and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. If you have a specific skin concern, speak to a pharmacist, doctor or dermatologist. For full ingredients and safety information, see the product label.

What are the three ingredients in Aloe Yami Balm?

They are petroleum jelly, aloe vera extract and vitamin E extract. That is the whole list. There is no long paragraph of small print on the back of the jar, so a customer who asks what is in it can be answered from memory.

Each one has a different job, which is why the list can be so short. This page takes them in turn, and says which claims are about an ingredient in general and which are about the jar itself.

What does the petroleum jelly do?

It holds moisture in. Petroleum jelly is an occlusive: it forms a physical, water-resistant layer on the surface of the skin. CeraVe’s ingredient guide describes it as helping to trap moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss, the steady evaporation of water out through the skin.

It does not add water. The product page says the same about the balm: it stops the water that is already there from leaving. That is why the balm suits skin straight out of the shower, when there is something to seal in.

The American Academy of Dermatology gives the same tip for petroleum jelly in general: for the best results, apply it when your skin is damp. Its one caution is the face: if you are acne-prone, it advises avoiding petroleum jelly there, as it may cause breakouts in some people.

What does the aloe vera extract do?

It is the plant on the label, and it goes on cool. The product page puts the reason plainly: cut an aloe leaf open and it is mostly water. That is the whole problem with aloe on its own, and the whole point of the balm. The petroleum jelly keeps the aloe where you put it instead of letting it dry off the skin by lunchtime.

We have not put a percentage on this page, and we are not claiming one. What we can say is what it is there for: the soothing feel when the balm goes on. For a longer look at the plant itself, see our guide on whether aloe vera is good for dry skin.

What does the vitamin E extract do?

It is an antioxidant, and it looks after the balm as much as your skin. Dermalogica’s explainer calls vitamin E one of the most widely used stabilisers in topical skincare, because it helps protect oil-based ingredients from oxidising over the life of a product.

Pure vitamin E is itself easily oxidised by air, which is why formulators often use more stable forms of it, as a review chapter on topical vitamin E notes. Which form is in this jar is a label question, not something this page will guess at. What the product page says is simple: a sealed jar keeps its condition while you use or sell through it.

Be careful with this one

Vitamin E is an antioxidant here, and nothing more is claimed. Nobody selling the balm should say it does anything for a skin condition either.

How much of the jar is each ingredient?

This page does not give amounts, because it cannot back them and we would rather leave a gap than invent a number. The three ingredients are what the label lists. Anything more precise would be a claim we cannot support from the label.

If a customer asks for a percentage, the honest answer is the one on the jar: three ingredients, listed, with the full label on the product page.

Where can you use it, and how?

On the face, body and scalp. On the face, use a pea’s worth at night, warmed between your fingers first so it spreads. On the body, use it straight out of the shower on elbows, knees, heels and knuckles. On the scalp, work it along the parting rather than through the hair.

A pea’s worth at a time is the point: use less than feels right. The steps are set out in full under how to use it.

What does the safety label say?

The label is short. External use only. Not for consumption. Avoid direct contact with the eyes. Keep out of reach of children. If any irritation or discomfort comes up, stop straight away, and store the jar in a cool, dry place.

A patch test before first use is sensible with any new product. The full label is on the product page.

Worth knowing

Where this page describes an ingredient in general, the source is named. Where it describes the jar, it is quoting the label and the product page, not a study of this product. There is no such study.

The short version
  • Three ingredients: petroleum jelly, aloe vera extract, vitamin E extract.
  • Petroleum jelly is the base: it holds moisture in and adds none.
  • Aloe vera extract is the soother: it goes on cool.
  • Vitamin E extract is an antioxidant that looks after the balm itself.
  • 50 ml, for face, body and scalp. A cosmetic, with a short safety label to read first.

Common questions

What is in Aloe Yami Balm?

Three ingredients, all printed on the jar: petroleum jelly, aloe vera extract and vitamin E extract. It comes in a 50 ml jar and is used on the face, body and scalp. It is a cosmetic, meant to moisturise and comfort the skin.

Does Aloe Yami Balm contain anything besides those three ingredients?

The ingredient list on the jar has three items: petroleum jelly, aloe vera extract and vitamin E extract. The product page and the label are the authority on the list, so check them if you need to be sure.

Does this page say how much of each ingredient is in the jar?

No. The label lists the three ingredients but this page does not give amounts, and it will not guess. What it can say is what each ingredient does in general, with the source named.

Why is there vitamin E in the balm?

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is widely used in skincare products to help protect oil-based ingredients from going off. The product page describes it as the keeper: it looks after the balm as much as your skin, so a sealed jar keeps its condition.

Can I use Aloe Yami Balm on my face?

Yes, it is made for face, body and scalp. Use a pea's worth at night, warmed between your fingers, and patch test first. If your skin is prone to breakouts, note that dermatologists advise care with petroleum jelly on the face.

What does the safety label say?

For external use only, not for consumption, avoid direct contact with the eyes, keep out of reach of children, stop straight away if any irritation comes up, and store in a cool, dry place. The full label is on the product page.
