Where it started

About five hundred tries before this one.

Skin is your body's largest organ, and it deserves simple, honest care. We were tired of ingredient lists that did more for the label than for the skin, so we went back to basics: a balm that melts on contact, locks in moisture, and leaves dry, rough skin feeling comfortable again. Nothing in the jar is there by accident.

The vision was to combine aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil into something smooth enough for everyday South African skin. Getting the mix right — not too thin, not too greasy — took eighteen months and roughly five hundred attempts. Aloe Yami Products (Pty) Ltd was only registered in August 2026; the balm itself is older than the company that now sells it.

What it is

A jar that does one job properly.

It is a barrier balm, not a lotion. It does not add water to skin — it stops the water that is already there from leaving, which is why it still does something on knuckles and heels in the middle of a dry August.

Three things you can say out loud

  • Three ingredients, all of them printed on the jar.
  • One jar covers face, body and scalp, so nobody needs three.
  • A pea's worth at a time, so 50 ml lasts a customer weeks.

01What is in it

Three ingredients, printed on the jar.

There is no long list on the back of this one. If a customer asks what is in it, you can answer from memory.

  • 01

    The base

    Petroleum jelly

Holds moisture in rather than adding any. It is the reason the balm still does something on knuckles and heels in the middle of a dry August.

  • 02

    The soother

    Aloe vera extract

The plant on the label. It goes on cool, which is what you want on a face that has been in the wind since six in the morning.

  • 03

    The keeper

    Vitamin E extract

An antioxidant. It looks after the balm as much as your skin, so a sealed jar keeps its condition while you sell through the pack.

Africa's Secret

Cut a leaf open and it is mostly water.

Which is the whole problem with it, and the whole point of the balm. The petroleum jelly is what keeps the aloe where you put it instead of letting it dry off your skin by lunchtime.

02How to use it

One jar, three jobs.

This is the bit worth knowing well enough to repeat, because it is the question every customer asks first.

  1. 1

    Face — a pea's worth at night

Warm it between your fingers first so it spreads instead of sitting on top. Use less than feels right. You can always go back for more.

  2. 2

Body — straight out of the shower

Elbows, knees, heels, knuckles. Damp skin gives the balm something to lock in, so it works harder than it does on dry skin.

  3. 3

    Scalp — along the parting

Work it into the scalp itself rather than through the hair. Good on a fresh braid line, and on the tight scalp that comes with a Highveld winter.

Storing your stock: cool, dry and out of the sun. A hall cupboard is fine. A car boot in December will loosen the balm and it never quite sets back the same, so keep your pack inside.

03Safety

Straight off the label.

None of this is buried in a footer. If you are selling it, this is what you tell your customer.

04What we claim

A moisturiser, and nothing more than that.

Aloe Yami Balm is a cosmetic. It moisturises, softens and helps skin hold its own moisture. It is not a medicine, and it is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

  • Say what it is for and how it feels — moisturises, soothes the feel of dry skin, forms a barrier layer.
  • Never say it treats, cures or heals eczema, acne, wounds, a scalp condition, or anything else.
  • Patch test before the first use. Stop if skin reacts, and see a professional if it does not settle.
